Chris Cox was born in Billings, Montana and grew up in the Denver, Colorado area. Most of his professional life has been spent in the automotive and constructions fields. As a teenager, he became interested in drawing and soon was copying patterns for a tattoo artist. Over time he began running a tattoo machine himself. As his drawing got better he started doing reproduction consignments which consisted mainly of Native American and wildlife art. This created the opportunity to gain experience working with other mediums and materials while studying the style and techniques used by some of the top artists. Watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, and even branding tools have been used on wood, metal, canvas, paper, leather, and skin. Drawing flash has provided the freedom and ability to explore variations of both traditional and non-traditional subjects. He is currently enjoying the rise in popularity of the older forms done in the many styles of today’s artists. “My favorite part of drawing is working with the customer from concept to final form on personal custom pieces. For me, that is what art is about: Taking someone’s idea and developing it into the reality that is wanted.”
