My Full name is Dean Phillip Baumgartner, (loved that one in School) and I was born and raised in Minnesota back in 1963. My influence to start doing some real artwork came when I was about 10 years old and I saw what my uncle had done when he was in High School, which inspired me to draw. I took art throughout school and then joined the military for 4 years where I served as an Illustrator. That's where all the fun began!

I was stationed in Hawaii, and was drawing tattoo designs for my friends to get them at the local shop. When I went in to get my second tattoo, I met the person whom would be my teacher and friend for many years to come. He had seen much of my work so the apprenticeship was in the bag. I think it was after I became a Tattoo Artist that I became really influenced by art. What a privilege too put something I created on someone's body! Wow!

My major influences back then (early 80's) were Jack Rudy, Gill Montie, Kari Barbara, The Dutchman and Mike Malone. Today they are Paul Booth, Edward Lee, Aaron Cain, Chris Bowman and anybody on this Flash2xs.com website! REALLY, you are all great!

I've always been inspired to draw flash, but when I saw what Edward Lee could do I was truly humbled and floored. I thought this guy is the best flash Artist I had ever seen! I decided to enter the drawing contest to see if I could win some flash from him, and I did! I think it is great that people such as Edward Lee give out their tips to help others better themselves . . . I sure used his ideas.

My goal now is to keep my mind open and surround myself with those who are very talented so that I can grow as an Artist and as a person. I am very honored to be on this site and hope to be of some contribution to the flash world. If one person is inspired by what I do as I have been from others, then what more could a person ever ask for?
