Rollins has been called a modern-day renaissance man: singer, spoken word artist, movie actor, and TV personality. "Rollins [is] relentlessly busy," says critic Steve Huey, "and has kept his artistic integrity, becoming a kind of father figure for many alternative bands of the '90s."

The former lead singer of hardcore punk band Black Flag once got the band's logo inked on the back of his neck. That was his first tattoo, and he's displayed a passion for it ever since. Many of Henry Rollins's tattoos are related to his passion for music: from the logo of German experimental music band Einsturzende Neubauten, to the mascot of punk rock group The Misfits.

His original name was Henry Garfield. Can you picture a guy with a giant "SEARCH & DESTROY" tattoo having a name like Henry Garfield? It's a good thing he changed it. That would have just looked silly.
