Matt:

I have been tattooing for around seven years now. I started with and continue to work at Skin Grafix Tattoos in Augusta, Georgia. My early influences were comic books and nature photography, and to this day, I still gather inspiration from those two completely separate sources. Although my flash work doesn’t often reflect it, my favorite style of tattooing is black and gray work, mainly because of the subtlety that can be achieved using tones of the same color. In the future, I hope to produce at least one set per year, and possibly more, depending on demand that will reflect this tendency.

Rob:

I have been tattooing at Skin Grafix Tattoo in August, Georgia for almost 5 years, now. I have been drawing basically all of my life. As a child, my artistic influences consisted of cartoons and comic books. Through those, I taught myself the basics of drawing, proportion, perspective, light, and shadow. As I grew older, my influences broadened to include Japanese animation, and many fantasy-based painters such as Michael Weiland, Frank Frazetta, and Larry Elmore. As a tattoo artist, I have been able to further broaden my artistic style.

“The ability to work with and talk shop with artists from all over the world who have already dropped their defenses has been greatly rewarding. In being part of this larger community that is Flash2xs/Tattoofinder, everyone has already accepted each other and are that much more willing to share their knowledge and insights than the average artist contacted by a stranger. My favorite time with Flash2xs however would have to be working the Meadowlands convention with Brad and Lou and getting to hang with those guys for the weekend. We need to do that again!”
